Bensons Polymers Ltd. Synthetic Rubber Adhesive/ Spray Adhesive/ Spray Glue

Spray Adhesive
POLYFIX ® Spray adhesive is new generation adhesive that is widely used as a replacement of synthetic rubber adhesive. The innovative formulation provide 70 % saving on the total consumption in comparison to the conventional synthetic rubber adhesive. Only 300 ml of spray glue can do the work of almost 1 litre of conventional rubber adhesive.

The spray is very easy to apply and provides an additional saving on the labour cost. It is applied by using spray gun along with compressor with hole size 1.6 to 1.8 mm, instead of old conventional brush applying method.

Composition
The product is having high solid contents with very low viscosity and low odour. This results in use of less balance quantity solvents, which is harmful for environment and human breathing.

As the viscosity is very low it results in extra coverage in comparison to earlier conventional synthetic rubber adhesives. As the viscosity is very low it results in extra coverage in comparison to earlier conventional synthetic rubber adhesives.

Application Areas
Targeted Industry
Properties
Points to be remembered before application
  1. Preperation
    • Make sure that the workshop is well air ventilated.
    • The tank or bottle of the spray gun should be free of water.
    • Make sure that the function of the spray gun is working well.
    • Inspect whether the glue model is suitable for the desired material.
    • The surface of bonding materials should be free of oil, water, dust etc.
    • Workshop should be far away from fire or heat source.

  2. Key Points in operating
    • The operating gun should be placed at a distance of 0.5 meter making an angle of 45 degree with the surface, 6-8 Kg pressure is normal for spraying. The effect of spraying should be small micro grains or mist in fan shape. Spray evenly, do not make too thick or thin coating.
  3. Time for spraying adhesive
    • Please note that the airing time of each glue model differs slightly according to their different formulas and operations, which probably influence their performance. Improper operation will probably cause in the failure of its stickability. More time is needed for the glue to dry in low temperature or high humidity. Please refer to the following specific notes.
  4. Proper pressure leads for better effect
    • Proper pressure during the felting time will make the glue perform better.
Operating notes for high quality sponge- Double sides sprayed on, expose to air for 1-3 minutes before bonding, which should be prolonged if meets low temperature or high humidity. Incorrect spray or insufficient pressure will lead to cracking or desquamating.

Operating notes for spray glue for thick or artificial leather- Spray or scratch on double sides, expose to air for 2-5 minutes before bonding. Polish the surface of the target materials before operating, if necessary.

Spray glue for cloth screen- Sprays on one or double sides. Bonding is done immediately after the spray. Too high pressure of the spray gun or too much spraying will lead to glue soaking.

Operating notes for spray glue for retardant materials- After spraying on both the sides expose the surface to air for 1-3 minutes before bonding. Incorrect spray or insufficient pressure will lead to cracking or desquamating..

Operating notes for fireproof boards/suitcases and bags-After spraying on both the sides expose the surface to air for 1-5 minutes before bonding. Incorrect spray or insufficient pressure will lead to cracking or desquamating.

Operating notes for mattress, thermo insulate materials, pillows and foam materials- After spraying on both the sides expose the surface to air for 1-5 minutes before bonding. All around pressure is important. Incorrect spray or insufficient pressure will lead to cracking or desquamating.

Operating notes for fireproof boards, PVC, Aluminum boards, plastic veneer plank, plywood, metal, EVA Scratch on double sides- Wait for a moment before bonding, 2-15 minutes airing time may be reqquired, which depends on the temperature and humidity conditions. (Note- Cold temperature and humid conditions needs more airing time).

Note
Different grades are available as per specific requirement of customer.

Shelf Life
6 months in sealed condition.

Packing-
4 litre, 5 litre, 18 litre (Tin)

Important Precautions

Problems with solutions

Common Problems Possible reasons Solutions
Poor Initial Glutinosity Glue Volatilization too fast or slow. Affection on glutinosity with lower temp. Moisture air tube of spray gun. Too humid. Thicker glue layer and slower to dry. Too thin to cover. Adjust the volatilization speed or alter glue formula. Adjust temp or exchange lower-temp resistant brd. Expel seeper in the air compressor.
Failure to spray Lower air pressure. Low temp affecting the viscosity. Machine failure. Viscosity too high. Raise air pressure to 6-8 kg. Adjust working site temp. Change or repair spray gun. Adjust glue thickness to thinner.
Uneven spray Lower air pressure. Machine failure. Spray distance too far. Viscosity too high. Raise air pressure to 6-8 kg. Change or repair the spray gun. Adjust the spraying distance. Adjust the glue thickness from thinner.
Strong Smell Poor ventilation. High temperature. Abundant applying of glue. Improve ventilation. Adjust temperature. Operate properly and spray evenly.
Unglued in sun Poor ultraviolet resistant. Not bonded well. Avoid exposure in sun, change another model. Bond in the correct way.
Crack after bonding Insufficient glue sprayed on. Single side sprayed when double sides spray needed. Poor aging-resistance and heat resistance. Pressed partially on bonded materials. Bond after bonding time. Bond when glue is still wet. Spray on proper amount of glue. Spray evenly on double sides. Change a model which performs better in heat and aging resistance. Press evenly. Bond at the best time after spray on. Bond after totally dry which usually takes 5-10 mins.
Bubbled after bond Glue accumulation. Partially lack of glue. Adjust the spray pressure and distance. Spray evenly.
Adhesive glue film Temperature too low. Not enough open assembly. Time before conglutinating. Heat the adhesive can in hot water. (30 degree to 50 degree for 5-10 minutes. Extend the open assembly time, bond at the best time.
Rough glue film High humidity in the work site. Using expired adhesive. Poor adhesive liquidity. Dry and ventilate the work site. Use adhesive in the valid storage time. Use good liquidity adhesive.
Loose glue film Too short open assembly time. Too thick adhesive sprayed. Air contained in the adhesive because of great gummosity. Too much water in target material. Sufficient pressure on target material during bonding. Extend the open assembly time, and bond at the best time. Apply evenly for 2-3 times. Heat or thinner the adhesive by toluene, ethyl acetate, and acetone. Reduce water contained in the target materials. More pressure applied to the target materials when bonding.
Adhesive film cracks or bubbles Target interface does not correspond well if insufficient adhesive applied. Too much pressure extrudes adhesive when bonding. Low viscosity leads to short of adhesive. Choose the right adhesive type. Make up adhesive where lacks before bond, press properly. Chance viscosity or apply several times.
Poor bonding strength Target interface does not correspond well if insufficient adhesive applied. Not enough open assembly time before conglutinating. Too much pressure extrudes the adhesive. Low viscosity leads to lack of adhesive. Carry out the surface cleaning. Make up adhesive where lacks before bond, extend the open assembly time, bond at the best time reduce the pressure to normal chance viscosity or apply several times.
